    Notes:

    Died:
William Thomas MAXEY was one of the earliest settlers of Los Angeles. He crossed the plains from Iowa, his native State, and reached Los Angeles in 1854. He has lived here continuously since then, having built up an extensive butcher business from which he retired some years ago. He was for years the assistant chief of the old volunteer fire department, and continued in the service until about two years ago, when he had to resign on account of ill health. For several years he was a mounted officer of the city. He commanded the respect of all who knew him. Since his retirement, two years ago, he has lived with his brother John Joseph Maxey, at Vernondale.

He was naturalized by virtue of his father.
